Every year, Bahá’ís around the world celebrate the birthdays of the Twin Manifestations of God for this era, Bahá’u’lláh and His forerunner, the Báb. The years, 2017 and 2019, are particularly special as each marks a 200th year anniversary of the birth of one of these two revered figures.
The Báb (the Gate) was born in Shiraz, Iran in 1819. Though the Báb was a Manifestation of God, and the founder of a great religion, He also announced Himself to be a forerunner of yet another Messenger Who would soon come after Him. Today, Bahá'ís recognize this latter Manifestation to be Bahá’u’lláh.
Bahá’u’lláh (Glory of God) was born in 1817 in Tehran, Iran. In 1863, nineteen years after the beginning of the Bábi Faith, Bahá’u’lláh publicly declared Himself as the promised One of all the past Manifestations (Abraham, Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster, Jesus, Muhammad, and the Báb) and the One who had come to unify humanity. Bahá’u’lláh's teachings for a harmonious, peaceful and unified world include the essential Unity of God, His Manifestations, and all Religions, the Equality of men and women, the Harmony of Science and Religion, the Advancement of Spiritual as well as Material Means, and the Abolishment of all forms of prejudice and Justice for all.
To build the Kingdom of God on Earth inspired by Bahá’u’lláh's teachings, Bahá’ís of all ages, alongside their friends and acquaintances, in neighborhoods and communities throughout the world, are attending classes for spiritual education to reflect and deepen on the Word of God, and to build their capacity to serve their own local communities. These activities are providing the opportunity for people to build a strong sense of purpose, to develop their capabilities, and to selflessly undertake acts of service purely for the good of others.
